I think we all get that wanderlust bug during this time of year. Whether we want to travel a few hours away, or explore the hidden treasures of the world, we all have that want and need to see something new. One thing that always amazes me, (even if it does sound very daft) is that we all live on the same planet, yet no two locations are the same, whether it's the culture, language or the landscapes. One day I would love to compile a much larger list of places, (at the moment it's all just floating around in my head) but for now, I shall just stick to my little list of beautiful places.
1. Bora Bora, French Polynesia
Bora Bora has always been very high on my wanderlust list; have you seen anything more beautiful? The location has become well know for its over-water bungalows. Imagine just waking up with the view of clear crystal waters and lagoons. It's just like living on your own private and secluded island. This is the definition of paradise. Don't worry if living on water is not your thing, they have land hotels located around the island too.
2. Riviera Maya, Mexico
Another country I am dying to visit is Mexico. I have always been so fond of the Mexican culture; the Mayan art, Day of the Dead, and of course the food. One of the things I'd love to visit while in Mexico is the Xcaret (pictured above). Made up of caves and tunnels, the underground river is the perfect way to gently float through, while observing the rock formations, marine fossils, and the ancient Mayan cenote. Sounds like the perfect form of relaxation.
3. Whitsunday Island, Australia
Australia has so many beautiful beaches and locations, it was hard to choose just the one, so I have chosen a small island. Whitsunday Island is part of a collection of mini tropical islands located off the coast of Queensland. This is the perfect getaway experience for peaceful marines, water activities, and of course, the Great Barrier Reef. Whitehaven Beach (pictured above) is most famous for its pristine white silica sand and clear aqua waters.
4. Northern Lights, Norway
Seeing the Northern Lights is something that has been on my bucketlist for some time. Incase you are not 100% sure what this is, let me explain. The Northen Lights, also known as 'Aurora Borealis', is a magical natural light display in the sky, which is formed when the electrical charged particles from the sun collide as they enter the earth's atmosphere. Sounds pretty cool, right? Well it looks absolutely breathtaking. A photo opportunity not to be missed.
5. Harbour Island, Bahamas
Bahamas, just like Bora Bora, is paradise. There is one place on Harbour Island which is a must; Pink Sand Beach. Yes, the beach is pink. The coloured sand is the result of tiny red and pink creatures which have been crushed by the waves. Once they're washed up on the beach, it combines with the sand creating the perfect pink hue.
6. Lake Como, Italy
One day, I would love to road trip around Italy, but my one must-see location is Lake Como. Located in the north of Italy, it is most famous for its beautiful landscapes, wildlife, and of course the water. The lake is surrounded by hills and mountains, with elegant restaurants, villas, and resorts dotted around. At night, the lake is lit up, and if it's even possible, looks just as beautiful.
7. Chiang Mai, Thailand
This is one of those things were a photograph will never do it any justice. 'Mae Jo' is an event organised by the Buddhist group, Duangtawan Santiparp Foundation, where they release lanterns to show respect to Buddha. It is also believed the lanterns represent any troubles or bad luck you may have, and as the lanterns disappear, your problems disappear too. This is such a beautiful and inspiring event I hope to one day experience.
Let me know in the comments below some of the beautiful places you've visited, or would like to visit. If you have been to any of the places listed above, let me know so I can be filled with jealousy.
